چکیده

The highest T, organic superconductors all involve the organic molecule bis(ethy1enedithio)tetrathiafulvalene (denoted as BEDT-TTF or ET) coupled with an appropriate acceptor. This leads to ET, ET+, or (ET)2+ species in the crystal. Using ab initio Hartree-Fock calculations (6-31G** basis set), we show that ET deforms to a boat structure with an energy 28 meV (0.65 kcallmol) lower than that of planar ET ( 0 2 symmetry). On the other hand, ET+ is planar. Thus, conduction in this system leads to a coupling between charge transfer and the boat deformation vibrational modes at 20 cm-' (ET) and 28 cm-' (ET+). We suggest that this electron-phonon coupling is responsible for the superconductivity and predict the isotope shifts (dT,) for experimental tests of the electron-transfer boatvibration (ET-BV) mechanism. The low frequency of this boat mode and its coupling to various lattice modes could explain the sensitivity of Tc to defects, impurities, and pressure. We suggest that new higher temperature organic donors can be sought by finding modifications that change the frequency and stability of this boat distortion mode.

Superconductivity in Layered Organic Metals

In this short review, I will give an overview on the current understanding of the superconductivity in quasi-two-dimensional organic metals. Thereby, I will focus on charge-transfer salts based on bis(ethylenedithio)tetrathiafulvalene (BEDT-TTF or ET for short). In these materials, strong electronic correlations are clearly evident, resulting in unique phase diagrams. The layered crystallograph...

1 High-field magnetoresistive effects in reduced-dimensionality organic metals and superconductors Summary. The large charge-transfer anisotropy of quasi-one-and quasi-two-dimensional crystalline organic metals means that magnetoresistance is one of the most powerful tools for probing their bandstructure and interesting phase diagrams. Here we review various magnetoresistance phenomena that are...

Electron Spin Resonance in Organic Conductors Based on (BEDT-TTF) with Linear Anions

The Conduction Electron Spin Resonance (CESR) Spectroscopy which starts from classical works of Dyson (1), Feher and Kip (2) in 1955 was successively developed for simple metals. It appears this phenomena could be used as a unique instrument for the investigations of conduction electron kinetics. It becomes clear soon that a number of objects available for CESR observation is restricted because...

High-field magnetoresistive effects in low-dimensional organic metals and superconductors

Quasi-two-dimensional crystalline organic metals and superconductors are very flexible systems in the study of many-body effects and unusual mechanisms for superconductivity [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7]. Their “soft” lattices enable one to use relatively low pressures to tune the same material through a variety of low-temperature groundstates, for example from Mott insulator via intermingled antiferro...
